OK - Secret grade school dream was to be an archeologist. Now, in your most childish treehouse dreams - if you could travel to somewhere deliciously exotic to explore - where would you choose?
Iowa is not exotic.

The only place I want to go is Southern California. I already lived China and Cambridge, England, the places I wanted to go as a kid. Now, I just want to be in SoCal. But I guess if the US is is not exotic enough, maybe Paris or Brussels?
Tierra Del Fuego, I don't know why.
seriously...... soCal? wow? stick with seattle bro.
it's disgusting. i mean ask scotty... :)
god i hope you were joking. lol!
l.
New Zealand, Machu Picchu, Nepal.
Antarctica, Copper Canyon,...
I should just stop.
New Zealand, Israel, Prince Edward's Island, Polynesia and all the little villages of Tuscany.
The South Pacific, Greece, Corsica, Maine, Central America.
Seriously, dude, I love SoCal. It's like getting Phoenix landscaping with an ocean. And I absolutely need to be near the ocean so I can surf. It doesn't snow or rain there, the temperature is moderate and will allow me to stay tan all year. You can grow orange and lemon trees in your backyard...man, it's like heaven. Here in Seattle, we are going to sit through the next 7-8 months of 4os and 50s with a constant dampness and drizzle. I am already, after the first month of the rainy season, well into my seasonal depression. Besides, Scottie is not a SoCal type of person anyway. He's a midwesterner through and through. That's where he'd be happiest, I think.
Another place I would like to live is Newquay, England in Cornwall. A lot like Washington State weather but with better pubs and a surfing subculture. Also, the south of France wouldn't be bad either - again, I can surf...
BroYuncle-Today at church somebody just gave me the skinny on all the best places to stay/eat/have fun in Copper Canyon, no lie! So, if you get the yen I got the itinerary for YOU!
The Louvre in Paris, definitely. Just let me wander for 6 days or so...if I don't come out after that send someone in after me:)
Venice is one of my dream vacations, the romance, the scenery, I just can't wait.... !!
Thanks for reminding me, Sara, of single malt heaven. Mmmm, haggis and scotch!
Ok, first of all, as another former midwesterner now dwellin in "SoCal," it grows on you! There are downsides but it has a permanent place in my heart whether we leave or not. Oh, and totally fun and random encounter--I just was at a conference in Anaheim, looked up, and saw none other than Scott Keller playing the electric guitar! I assume that's the Scottie you meant, and he lives quite far from the ocean, which makes a difference!
Anyway, enough defense of SoCal...
I can't remember a time and an age when I didn't want to travel the world!
Due to Anne of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island always seemed tremendously whimsical and exotic!
Sort of grew out of a fascination with Europe, but I did find Italy particularly delightful and am sure there are wonderous things in so many parts beyond those I've seen.
Also, India (which I have done and get to do again in a couple months), Nepal, Tibet, Thailand, and in more recent dreams, anything that ends in "stan"! :) Ok, enough for now.
OK - since Rachel is going, it's got me thinking...
Why not plan an itinirary to your dream?
Why not?
PS Where is Copper Canyon?
It be in Mexico and is bigger than the Grand Canyon. Taste it on Google Earth. Es gigante!
Yo, MummerSis! I've no immediate plan for a trip south, but the itinerary would be welcome. In fact, it might inspire action. One never knows.
Thanks, Rach, for sticking up for SoCal! If you are the Rachel I am thinking of (it appears you got married), us Bethel-ites gots to stick together...
And yes, we are referring to my dear old roomie Scottie Keller - Vineyard Musica Guitar God and enthusiastic consumer of my tater tot green bean casserole.
Rach - I actually met a couple last Sunday from Prince Edward Island (yeah, real people live there...) and the best thing was that they said it is just as beautiful as it appears in AofGG and even better that the people are very friendly!
doc seattle - do I know you? you show up on all the blogs I frequent
(could you be masquerading as Richie Perez??)
OOHHHH, is Dr. Seattle Adam Collins? I could not think for a minute when you referenced Bethel and Scottie's roommate...but then I saw a reference on Levi's website. I had no idea you were in Seattle. I actually just checked my newly received Bethel Alumni Directory :), and it said Renton. Where is that? Well, if you ever get a little craving for a dose of SoCal, come visit my husband John (yes, married) and me!!! And, for all you doubters, you are welcome as well, and I'll try to give you a little taste of the good parts of SoCal!
Adam, I know you are offbeat and fabulous - but the words "tater tot" and "food" should not be uttered together.
But you are cooking, so points for that...
Oh, I don't cook that anymore, Beth. While surprisingly not bad, I could actually feel my arteries hardening at the mere mention of my infamous casserole. But that's what you eat when you live on less than $12,000 a year. Now, I make much better things. Being in the Pacific NW, I make a very good cedar smoked salmon fillet and salmon chowder. I also make my own dry rub for steaks on the grill. Beyond my berry sauce for ice cream and angel food cake, I am also fairly famous for my Detroit Ice Tea and Pomegranate Tea recipes and my Balsamic Vinagerette grilled chicken breast. Much healthier now.
Yes, mummers, you know me (or knew me once), back when I was a Valpo Law student and roommate of Scottie and Daniel Johnson. You called me handsome the first time you saw me and I thought "Wow! My pastor's wife must be a raging alcoholic if she sees that!" While you must be disappointed that I am not the ever-impressive "Chie", I hope "tall, skinny roommate of Scottie Keller" rings a bell.
Rachel, Renton is 12 miles SE of Seattle at the South End of Lake Washington near SeaTac airport (not that that would ring any bells). If I'm down there (and I occassionally go down there to surf with fellow Bethel grad, Brad Kenoyer), I will certainly get in touch with you guys.
I'm always so interested when there's a post that was removed by the author. I wonder who it was and what they said! Stop doing that, anonymous!
Actually, that geography does make sense, Adam. My husband is originally from Seattle, so I have been there several times now to visit. Yeah, we're on the westside (Mar Vista/Venice area), so pretty accessible to surf territory.
And, yeah, Sara, deleted posts make me morbidly curious as well! :)
Two things:
a) I have never seen Mummers "rage," and,
2) Tater tots Rule! (about twice a year, because I have to eat healthy the rest of the year to clean out the "tot effect.")
Ok, ok, I DID IT! I'm the deleter! Nothing sinister, unfortunately, just an inadvertent double posting of the same comment. If you need something more nefarious to satisfy your curiosity, then imagine that I just removed a picture of me removing the tags from matresses...
Well, Rach, anytime yous guys are up this way, let me know!
im must say, although i am not a big proponent of soCal i DO miss the west coast. even as much as i made fun of California when i lived there. i loved living there.
l.
let's see: Copper Canyon, tater tots, Richie Perez. what an interesting post beth:)
Jenny, that's how I ROLL..
It's the "shotgun" approach. It's how I roll, too.
Boom.
DR Seattle, just a reminder...My mama married a tall thin intellectual who waxes poetic. You're gold, man.
Although, I'm sure mom loves a good Margarita...
